Software Update

A few years ago I made the decision to only run legal software on my PC.

Since then I have discovered that their are many excellent open source and free applications around.

An excellent alternative to Microsoft Office Suite is the OpenOffice.org suite. I recently found out that Novel have there own version of Open Office. It has a couple of features worth mentioning.
  1. Supports the new MS Office 2007 formats
  2. Load quickly
  3. Supports VBA macros

This version of OpenOffice can be downloaded from here.

If you would like to read more about the pros and cons of the OpenOffice suite, this Tech Support Guy thread is interesting.

If you are looking for a good, free, PDF "printer" have a look at Bullzip. Basically it allows you to print any document as a PDF. What I have found most useful about Bullzip is that it allows you to direct output of different documents to the same PDF file.

For other suggestions with regards to free or open source programs have a look at my Software page.
